When Jace’s awesome teacher called and told me there was a lot of coughing in his classroom, I appreciated the warning and kept him home the next day. Little did I know he would be in the hospital 72 hours later with a fever that wouldn’t break. The Strep and Flu tests were negative, but his cough was deep and scary, and even meds couldn’t bring his temperature down. After four more days, a full treatment of IV antibiotics, and lots of fluids-- I nicknamed Jace my personal “Electric Blanket.” His little body was SO hot, all I had to do was hold him, and he instantly warmed me. Although I tried to find some good in his fevering body, I also found a fear again that I haven’t felt in a while. Life has a way of keeping us humble right?
President Spencer W. Kimball is quoted for saying, “God does notice us, and He watches over us, but it is usually through another person that He meets our needs.” I know this to be true, because I know Heavenly Father has filled our house this month with the love we need to get us through the fevers. Thank you ALL. We love you!
Jace’s fever finally broke just in time to receive another chemo treatment Thursday, so he’s here leaning on my arm as I type. He’s sick again today, with his normal reaction to chemo, but he’s not burning up…so I'm using a normal blanket to warm me:). Although I do enjoy the extra heat an electric blanket provides, today I love that Jace doesn't have a fever and that he's not a built in heater.
(How Jace feels today.)
Hi Everyone. This is Jace. My mom is typing for me, but I wanted to say hello. Hopefully I'll be able to come back to school Tuesday if I feel better. See you guys later.
Jace
One year and five months of chemo down. We’re almost half-way there. We can do it!
I know you don't know me, however, each time I read your blog I truly feel inspired! Your home IS blessed with 2 of the richest blessings...and many more! Rooting for your wonderful family!
ReplyDeleteHow scary! I love thinking I have it all under control...and then that fear creeps in to remind me how much I don't--which isn't always bad I guess. Glad to know Jace is doing much better! The JUST two kid comments reminds me a lot of the ohhhh you have been married 6.5 yrs and no kids? And now....ohhh this is JUST your first.....and ohhh she's adopted. Thanks for sharing, I love to gather strength from you and your very special family. I hope my little one grows up to be an incredible teenager who finds ways to serve and make the day of special little kids who adore them. Hang tough Jace, spring is coming and so is baseball! Can't wait to see some games!
ReplyDeleteHow good to get an update on the Leatham family. Jace is growing up it shows in his sweet face. I think of you often as I walk or drive by. Your family is still in my prayers. You can do this - hang in there
ReplyDeleteAh I'm sorry how much time Jace has had to spend so much time in the hospital. He's such a tough little guy! I hope you're doing alright, I haven't heard from you in awhile.
ReplyDeleteHi Jace, this is Austen's mom. Austen ended up sick too, he missed a whole week of school. Our whole family was worried that you would get sick (sorry you did)! We saw how bad this sick bug kicked Austen's butt, so we knew it wouldn't be good if you got it. We know your tough though!! Glad to hear you kept your mom warm I used Austen as a heating blanket also-He he. Take Care. Austen has missed you!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Amy I'm sensitive to that question too. It's good to hear you say that. I have two amazing kids also!!
You have two amazing young men and your house will continue to be full of fun-loving kids for years to come. I don't think you realize how much of a "mother" figure you are to numerous kids! We are so sorry that Jace has been sick, but he is one of the toughest guys we know and will continue to kick this! Connor has started baseball practice, and games are right around the corner. I sure hope we see you and get to cheer Jace on this season. Thanks for keeping us all updated.
ReplyDeleteAmy, Thank you for sharing that quote from President Kimball, I've been looking for it. I'm glad that Jace is doing better. Would you have ever imagined saying 'one year and five months of chemo down'????
ReplyDeleteBaby steps....
Shelly came home from school yesterday and told me Jace was in the hospital because he was sick. We pray for your sweet family and are sooooooooooo glad you are not a hot electric blanket any more Jace! Hopefully your stomach will feel better soon too! We wanted to come by today Jace, but Shelly had strep last week and is almost done with her antibiotics. She stayed home last week M-Th so she wouldn't get you sick. Once she is done with her antibiotics, and is feeling 100%, we just might come bring you a treat and visit ya! Hang in there! You guys are AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteNot heard from you guys for a while...just checking in to see if things are okay....
ReplyDeletehugs,
Katy
