Jace just sat on the couch and went through the Valentines from his class. One by one he pulled them from the giant, decorated envelope and read every word. I had to take a picture, because his smile revealed how happy this made him. As he read the sweet messages from his friends I thought about that great concept, synergy. Each Valentine was important to him, and even the generic messages on them were written just for him. Jace has also been receiving sweet Secret Valentines from someone, and treats from the neighbors last night cemented the idea that we are really LOVED this Valentine’s Day.
After having a few meltdowns Wednesday about “hating being sick” and “wishing he was somebody else,” he awoke Thursday a different kid. He felt great. His fever was gone, and he was happy. Now it’s Friday, and although we’ve been cautioned to stay home (low numbers), he is much better than my last post. All I can say is Thank Goodness It’s Friday! Did you all say an extra prayer for us?

me and ry did! :) so he would feel better this week and not get fevers again AND so you guys could come to our wedding! :)

Dear Jace,
ReplyDeleteYou don't know me, but tonight I have gotten to know you. Because of my cousin, Jenny Steiner, I have been introduced. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. I don't have one. Will you be mine?
I am a mother to a little boy named Jaden. He is 6, too. I have a battled an auto-immune disease for over 10 years! I DO NOT like hospitals! They can be really hard to go to! I DO NOT like prednisone! Just tonight because of the prednisone I have sweated almost as many tears as I have cried.
Can I tell you that there is nothing better than having a little boy? Especially ones that love to play sports. What is your favorite? Having a little boy gives me the energy and will power to face hard things. Like being sick.
Because of my Jaden I am alive today. Can you believe that a boy could have that much power?
I am divorced and my little boy is at his Dad's in Utah. Before he left I rubbed his little hands with lotion (they get so dry!) and put neosporin on his lips. He told me he gets a stomache ache when he leaves.
I had to be at the University of Utah hospital for a couple days this week while he stayed home and went to school. It is so hard to not be able to hug him!
So Jace my face is getting round on prednisone and really puffy from crying and I have to talk in church tomorrow.
I believe in prayer. with all my heart. You are the newest name to mine now. I can't wait to show Jaden how amazing you are. He barely started dunking the nerf ball left handed on his Nerf basketball hoop. he loves football, too. Once, I had to pitch the ball to him for 3 hours. Did you make your parents do that?
I am writer. I love to read as well. I will write up a long list of my favorite books for your mom to get at the library.
I LOVE that you are reading so well. I am going to tell my reading students at TempleView Elementary how many you have read, and challenge them to read in your honor. Would that be ok?
Tell your mom to list your favorite books on a post one of these days. And to list the ones that she loves.
Dear Jace's mom,
I have felt the spirit so strongly tonight. My heart has been wrung out as I have gone through these posts the last three hours. Thank you for posting, especially when you were so tired.
Your son's pictures are so sweet. I love being a mom more than anything. Life can be so bitter-sweet, no? While reading your thoughts I have just prayed. For Jace. For Jaden. For me. I have felt Heavenly Father's love for me and the assurance of eternal life. Thank you, thank you.
Jace buddy, this is Mark. I hope that you are having a good day. I just got home from the hospital this afternoon. Before I left the hospital they gave me my steroid pills and they taste nasty, luckily the gum that you sent with your mom and dad took the taste away. I have a feeling that the cancer bag is going to come in very handy. I can't wait to meet you at Dr. Hancocks office! We will be able to talk cancer survival and baseball! My port is a little sore today but I am glad that I have it so they don't have to find a vein every time that they need something out of me. I better go, I might need to suck on a blo pop since I just threw up! Your awesome Jace!
